Lots of webmasters fret steadily about the fluctuations in their Google Page Rank. Now that Yahoo has separated itself from Google they are cranking up Yahoo Web Rank.
The Yahoo! Web Rank feature of the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar works by collecting anonymous URL data about the page you are visiting. This anonymous URL data is sent to the Yahoo! Companion servers, and a Yahoo! Web Rank value is returned to the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar as one measurement of the popularity of the Web page or URL you are visiting.
The Yahoo Toolbar that displays Web Rank can’t be downloaded now. Probably most of the people with the beta edition are SEO people.
There’s a short discussion on High Rankings: Yahoo Web Rank
Glad I do this for fun. Having two website ranking systems to worry about for a living isn’t something I’d want to have to do.
And at SitePoint: Yahoo’s new web rank

Not long ago, Forbes magazine has reported that pay per click ad sales are expected to increase to at least $8 billion by 2008.
There are three fundamental elements that form the basis of a successful pay per click ad program and they are constant monitoring, response analysis, and refinement.
Pay per click search engines offer a way to buy your way to the top of search results for any term you wish. With proper management, and a clear focus, pay per click search engines can offer some of the most well targeted and economical advertising on the Internet.
Pay per click advertising works through a bidding process, and the ads appear prominently on the results pages of search engines such as Google and Yahoo. The highest bidder for a particular word or phrase receives top placement, and depending on the engine, the top three to five bidders also generally also receive placement on the first page of unpaid search results.
Fundamental questions to be addressed when formulating a pay per click search engine strategy include the following:

The days of free search engine traffic are over!
(And the reign of cheap search engine traffic has begun!)
Okay, that may not be quite the case *yet*, but you really do have to work hard (or pay someone to work hard), to even get close to guaranteeing a top 10 position on search engines like Google.
Pay-Per-Click search engines, however, offer the promise of guaranteed visitors, for the keywords of your choice.
Choose to pay per click wisely!
There are literally hundreds of pay-per-click search engines available for you to spend your money. Only a few can guarantee targeted visitors to your site, though. I’ve listed the best pay-per-click search engines below.
=> SIGN-UP WITH THESE POPULAR PAY-PER-CLICK SEARCH ENGINES
* GOOGLE ADWORDS
Google operate a highly popular pay-per-click search engine.
Called Google AdWords, results appear on the Google search engine itself, as part of the search engine listings (right hand side).
Results also appear as part of AOL and Yahoo!’s searches and other major content providers. This might change soon, though. And, with it’s recent launch of Google AdSense, Google AdWords now appear on minor, but still relevant, content sites.
Unlike other pay-per-click search engines, Google AdWords doesn’t always list the highest bid term first (see THE BASICS OF BIDDING below for details). In Google’s words:
‘Getting great results in AdWords doesn’t necessarily mean spending a lot either. The AdWords system rewards the best-performing ads.’
Verdict: Definitely consider signing-up to Google AdWords, but learn how to make the most of your AdWords campaign first via a suitable tutorial or learning resource.
Google AdWords – https://adwords.google.com/
* OVERTURE
Overture is the original pay-per-click search engine. However, its popularity as a marketing tool has probably been surpassed by the superior Google AdWords product.
Overture is also one of the most expensive, and competitive. A quotation taken from their sign-up page:
‘A $50 initial deposit is non-refundable and will be applied to click-throughs or to the minimum monthly spend. Each account has a $20 minimum monthly spend. There is a minimum bid requirement of $0.10 per click- through.’
Overture do have tough anti-fraud measures in place – always evolving, obviously – so there is far less chance of receiving so-called ‘bogus clicks’ using Overture.
And Overture has an impressive search engine reach, with its results found in ‘Sponsored Listings’ in many search engines.
You can currently choose from Fast Track or Self Serve sign- up options.
Verdict: If you’re serious about generating targeted traffic to your site, but less bothered about minimum (or maximum!) bid amounts etc. then you should consider signing-up with Overture.
Overture – http://www.overture.com Overture UK – http://www.uk.overture.com
* ESPOTTING
Espotting is the self-proclaimed #1 pay-per-click search engine in Europe. Its results appear on many major search engines as well as well as thousands of relevant smaller sites too
This is what is says at Espotting UK’s sign-up page:
‘Espotting Media can help you access targeted leads from 72% of the UK’s online population… By ensuring that your listings appear within our top 3-5 search results, you will benefit from highly targeted leads from Yahoo! Europe, Lycos, Kelkoo and Netscape and many more. ‘
It offers a Gold, Silver and Bronze service depending on how ‘hands-on’ you want to be with your pay-per-click campaign (and how much money you want to spend!).
Verdict: A serious contender in Europe, worth considering.

There are other pay-per-click search engines worth considering. All of the pay per click search engines listed below have considerable reach, and can guarantee visitors to your site (often at a much cheaper cost than Overture etc.)

=> THE BASICS OF BIDDING
Using Overture as an example here, making a bid is simply a matter of choosing the following:
* keyword * title * description
And as Overture recommends on its site, always repeat the keyword in both the title and description to improve your chances of a click. Overture also comes with a keyword suggestion tool, available to Overture advertisers only.
Choosing your keywords, and the amount you are willing to bid is also simple, but can take a lot of time.
This is because you need to research suitable in-demand keywords, that cost little. Solutions to this problem include using the paid-for version of Wordtracker – the excellent keyword suggestion tool allows you to brainstorm good keywords, and determine the current cost of the top 20 bids. You might also want to use bid management software.

=> BUT BID CAREFULLY!
Make sure you don’t spend too much money.
Clicks can add up quickly. It’s probably worth investing in some kind of bid management software, or at least worth using the in-built bid management provided by search engines like Overture.
Remember, you ONLY want your prospective customers to click. And you must know the value of your visitor! (A rough guide: Value = average earnings / average unique visitors .)
Try and make sure that the cost of a click never exceeds this ‘value’ of a visitor.
One successful strategy is to bid low on many listings.

Now, here is an entertaining alternative to AdSense!
The world’s largest e-commerce site said it plans to provide hundreds of thousands of eBay auctioneers with simple snippets of code they can embed on other Web sites that showcase items that are for sale on eBay’s site.
A test of the program, dubbed eBay AdContext, is set to be introduced early next week, Swaaij said. What goods appear in any particular advertisement will be determined by the keywords on that Web page, a technique known as contextual advertising.

There are many ways to make money online and the best way for you is to simply be creative with your skills, knowledge, and abilities. However, the following five options are powerful ways to make money online with a website and definite something you should consider.
#1 Knowledge
You can always sell your knowledge, which many times is the best way if you are an “expert” of any type or subject matter. People are looking for your knowledge and input, regardless if it is self taught, learned in college, or wherever. People are always looking for answers online, so if you sell your knowledge you can simply make money from what you know.
#2 Affiliate Programs
Become an affiliate for products based on your website theme and then simply promote these programs where you earn money from referrals. It is easier than it sounds and only takes you creating a website full of rich content.
#3 Hard Goods
Selling hard goods is a traditional way of making money and it transfers to the online forum as well. No matter what hard goods you have to sell you can certainly find a buyer online. Create a website that focuses on your goods, have a good shipping plan in place, and then start selling online.
#4 E-books
Selling e-books, articles, and other written materials is also a powerful way to make money online and if you are good at writing it is certainly something you should consider. You can have your own website selling pre-written topics or else you can also write on demand, whatever works best for you and your web business.
#5 Auction Goods
Auction web sites are also very powerful ways to make money. The reason for this is you can sell a wide variety of products, do not necessarily need your own website although it helps, and can change your products from time to time as you need to. Many people enjoy working and selling via auction sites because any number of things can be sold from old personal items to new products as well.
The best way for you to make money online is for you to do something that you like and enjoy. When you do some thing you like and enjoy you will be able to commit yourself to doing it fulltime. The reason for this is working online can be difficult at times and if you do not enjoy it then it will be difficult for you to be successful making money via your website.

Online tool to help analyze Google AdSense data.
Google AdSense is an advertising provider for independent websites. It’s a nice way of earning a bit of money out of your website, but it has a rather inadequate reporting system that has recently been suplemented with a CSV export function. This tool aims to make it easier to view and print your AdSense statistics by taking the CSV imports as input and producing nicely-formatted information with useful statistics …

Running a pay per click campaign can be a valuable, fast source of online sales – but it can also cost you a lot of money if you don’t know what you’re doing. Many pay per click newbies do the following:
·They sign up with a pay per click search engine and start their pay per click campaign.
·They get lots of traffic, lots of clicks and pay lots of money.
·They don’t make a single sale.
That’s not how it should go – you can make tons of sales using pay per click advertising. I have several websites that ONLY receive pay per click traffic and they make sales on a consistent basis.
The problem is that you have to know what you’re doing. With that in mind here are 3 quick and easy tips to help you get the most from your pay per click campaign:
Tip #1: Pull Them In With An Attention-Getting, Optimized Title
Your web site title is the first thing the searcher sees. Make sure it matches what your web site offers or else you’ll tick your searchers off – and that’s not a good way to start a potential customer relationship!
(How many times have you been looking for something and clicked on a title only to find a porn site or a get-out-of-debt-fast site…talk about bad Internet etiquette!)
Also, try to put the relevant, most popular keywords in the title. Titles with keywords in them have been proven to get up to 50% more click-throughs.
If you can, write a title that lists a benefit to the customer or evokes curiosity. Titles with benefits will pull more click-throughs than stale, factual titles.
“Shed Pounds Fast With Celebrity Diet Secrets” will always beat “The Diets Of Famous People”. One lists a benefit while evoking curiosity – the second just evokes minor curiosity.
Test different titles and see which ones pull a higher click through rate. You’ll eventually find one or two titles that pull in the most clicks (as well as the most sales) and you’ll probably want to stick with those.
Tip #2: Use Your Description to Pre-quality and Pre-sell
If the searcher gets past the title to the description you’re doing well…but you have to hook them with your description. Again, make sure the description elaborates on the title and tells your searcher EXACTLY what they can expect.
This is also a way you can further ‘pre-qualify’ your traffic. You don’t want to spend money on people who don’t fit your perfect customer criteria so be as specific as possible about what your website offers them.
Don’t just say “A website that sells a variety of cheesecakes” Pre-sell and pre-quality your traffic with a description like:
“Gourmet New York Specialty cheesecakes sold exclusively online. >From Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake to Bailey’s Irish Cream Cheesecake. Check out our online catalogue if you want to serve your guests something heavenly!”
Makes your mouth water already doesn’t it? And chances are that someone only looking for a free cheesecake recipe won’t click through so you’ve prequalified your traffic and your conversion rate will go through the roof!
Tip #3: Think ‘Niche’ with your keywords
Unless you are Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig, chances are you can’t afford to spend $5.00 on the word “diet”. That’s ok – you don’t have to.
You can pick up a huge variety of more specific keywords that probably very few pay per click competitors have bid on (for example, what about ‘heart healthy diet’?)
Just make sure to do your homework and remember to get the misspellings people use also.
So those are 3 tips to get the most from your pay per click campaign. By grabbing customers with an attention getting title, prequalifying them with a detailed description and choosing niche keywords, you’re sure to get ready-to-buy traffic for pennies per keyword.
Good luck and may you make millions with your online business!

Adsense – 7 keys to empire?

There’s a lot of buzz around about how you can make a quick and easy fortune using this AdSense course or that tool or this book.
And they show you their incomes from AdSense too (though not necessarily THIS month). Now, is it just me or is something a little odd in all this?
Say, I’m making $5000 – no make that $15,276 a month from AdSense on my sites. And now I’m going to sell all my secrets on how to do that for $67 or $97 or whatever.
So what happened, did I get all bored with my filthy riches and decide to become a philanthropist and sell stuff that makes me 15K a month for a pittance? Or is it something else?
Am I saying it’s impossible? Certainly not. I know people who make that more.

Some sites don’t pass Page Rank. Popdex’s donor and sponsor links for example. I’m surprised many paid listings on trash sites do.
This is a service we felt was badly needed. We hear stories every day from customers who have bought links on sites that no longer pass PR.
Please note that these sites all have page rank showing on their own sites but no longer pass page rank to other sites.

For many people, their first experience of working online involves selling products on eBay. This was how I got started back in 1998 and I know countless other people that have done the same.
However, it is important to remember that eBay is not the ‘be all and end all’ – there is a much bigger online world out there. My reason for mentioning this is that I have spoken to three people this week who each make a decent full or part-time income on eBay but who are fed up with it and looking to move in other directions.
